Srirangapatna was the capital of Tipu Sultan in the 18th century. Get to visit the 8th Century Gangadeshwara Temple to understand about Idol worship. Learn about the battles that have taken place here in Bailey’s Dungeon, Srirangapatna, Obelisk and the Fort and from the highest point on the island the Flag Staff, you will get to see the French rocks and understand why they are called so.

Proceed to Mysore by evening and check into hotel.

Early morning walking tour of Mysore followed by breakfast at the hotel.
We will then checkout and visit the spectacular Mysore Palace, escorted by a local guide.

Following this, we will drive to the Kabini reservoir (2.5hrs) and check into our accommodations.
In the afternoon, boat safari on the Kabini reservoir, adjoining the Nagarhole sanctuary. This is a great opportunity for bird watching, and also spot animals which come down to the water to drink.

An early start – we will walk through the tribal villages on the periphery of the sanctuary and observe their daily life. (~2.5hrs, 4km). On the way back we will walk through the Kabini river banks and this is another opportunity to spot some animals and birds.

After lunch, we will do a jeep safari into the Nagarhole sanctuary – an opportunity to maybe spot some big cats.
Evening Campfire and opportunity to interact with a local naturalist.

After breakfast, we will head to the magical Kuruva islands – a 1000 acre riverine ecosystem composed of over 65 islands on the Kabini river. This ecosystem has a myriad of orchids and endemic birds – our naturalist will accompany you to ensure that you fully appreciate our walk.

During the walk you will also get a great chance to interact with the locals of this area – the Kurchiyar tribes who have tended the fields and forests here for centuries. We will also visit a little tribal temple hidden deep in the woods.

After lunch, we will drive onto our resort. On our way there, we will stop at the home of a local farmer who specializes in growing endemic strains of rice. From here, we will carry onto a pottery where you can try your hand at the wheel. Nearby is a basket weaver – locally grown bamboo is woven by the local community into lovely objects of daily use.
We will then drive to our accommodations for the night.

The morning drive (~1hr) will take you to the foothills of the Banasura range.

The initial part of the trail skirts a small rural community before the pockets of shola forest start. There is plenty of flora and fauna to take in, aided by your guides. Dramatic views of the Banasura mountains open up around every corner and before long, you will arrive at a forest clearing, where we will take a break for a short while.

The trail then continues uphill, before the last 200m dash over gravel leads us to our lunch spot – Frog Rock (or “thavala para” in Malayalam). The views here are superb.

Post lunch, we will follow the trail downhill, which winds through rainforest and coffee and pepper plantations later, before we arrive back where we started.

After breakfast, we will drive to Edom Estates where we will go on a plantation walk. Edom is a 150 acre coffee and spice plantation. You will have the opportunity to see a variety of spices such as cardamom, pepper, nutmeg, vanilla and also walk through rice fields and banana plantations. The walk will last about 1.5 hours and you will be accompanied by a guide who will explain what you are seeing.

We will drive from here to Calicut (~2.5hrs) and have lunch. Post lunch, we will drive to the ancient boat building yards at Beypore, about 45mins drive away. Huge wooden boats are still built here by hand according to age-old designs and principles.

Return to the resort by early evening.

In the morning, we will explore the ancient spice and handicraft markets of Calicut. Calicut has been a centre of trading for over 2000 years and a walk through the old markets is fascinating. You can pick up some lovely handicrafts here.

After lunch, we will board a train to Alleppey (5hrs)

In the morning, you can attend an open-air yoga session (complimentary for one hour). Towards mid-morning, we will take a walk around the surrounding villages (1.5hrs) for an introduction to the fishing communities that have lived here for ages. An ayurveda massage in the late afternoon is a great idea (though it is recommended that you wait for a couple of hours after lunch), followed by a beach walk in the evening as the sun sets.

Towards noon, we will board a houseboat. You will spend until next morning cruising the expansive backwaters that are unique to Kerala

You will check out of the houseboat and return to Kochi. We will explore charming Fort Kochi with its whitewashed Dutch buildings dating back 400 years and Jewtown, before heading to the seat of the Kochi Maharajahs – the Mattanchery Dutch palace, so named because the Dutch built it for the Maharajah. The shops around the JewTown synagogue are great places to pick up a few souvenirs.

We will check into our hotel by early evening so you have plenty of time to pack.
